Qualification of professionals in IT Service Management (ITSM) is of increasing importance to organizations and individual professionals. Many organizations wish for their staff both to speak a common language and to have common qualifications, regardless of where the individuals may reside or where the qualification is gained.
The Best Management Practice hosts the Official ITIL website which is a resource for information about Qualifications, Publications and other related areas
IT Service Management (ITSM) derives enormous benefits from a best practice approach. Because ITSM is driven both by technology and the huge range of organisational environments in which it operates, it is in a state of constant evolution. Best practice, based on expert advice and input from ITIL users is both current and practical, combining the latest thinking with sound, common sense guidance.
ITIL has in May 2007 undergone a major and important refresh project with the release of ITIL V3. It is supported by a comprehensive qualifications scheme, accredited training organisations, and implementation and assessment tools.

The objective of itSMF International is to promote Service Management worldwide, by means of supporting the local itSMF chapters; itSMF International, through its qualifications and certifications activities, will promote a clear and unambiguous information source to support IT Service Management. itSMF International will therefore develop and promote qualifications and certifications that support this global perspective.
itSMF International requires a body to monitor, support and enhance Service Management qualification and certification schemes that meet these requirements.
Therefore itSMF International will create an International Qualifications and Certification Executive Sub Committee (IQaC) that will review the appropriateness and quality of all Service Management qualification and certification schemes, especially those related to ITIL® and ISO/IEC 20000 and make recommendations to the relevant controlling bodies.
The principal purpose of the IQaC is to support and influence the development and consistency of any qualifications and
certifications within the field of IT Service Management, in particular ITIL® and ISO/IEC 20000 on worldwide basis. Specifically, the IQaC provides the focal point for itSMF members to take an active role in monitoring of quality and consistency on an internationally co-coordinated basis.
